BOOK SPOTLIGHT - Caroline Fardig's Java Jive Mysteries

Caroline Fardig, one of my favourite authors, has a fab new series of chick lit mysteries launching! Yay!

Death Before Decaf is the first book of the series and sounds amazing. I've had my copy on pre-order and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival on my Kindle. Well, today was the day! It's arrived and I've already dived into it and am loving it every bit as much as I did Caroline's Lizzie Hart Mystery series.

So, here we go...

About The Book

DEATH BEFORE DECAF

Perfect for fans of Janet Evanovich and Diane Mott Davidson, Caroline Fardig’s captivating new mystery novel takes readers behind the counter of a seemingly run-of-the-mill coffeehouse . . . where murder is brewing.

After her music career crashes and burns spectacularly, Juliet Langley is forced to turn to the only other business she knows: food service. Unfortunately, bad luck strikes yet again when her two-timing fiancĂ© robs her blind and runs off with her best waitress. Flushing what’s left of her beloved cafĂ© down the toilet with her failed engagement, Juliet packs up and moves back to her college stomping grounds in Nashville to manage an old friend’s coffeehouse. At first glance, it seems as though nothing’s changed at Java Jive. What could possibly go wrong? Only that the place is hemorrhaging money, the staff is in open revolt, and Juliet finds one unlucky employee dead in the dumpster out back before her first day is even over.

The corpse just so happens to belong to the cook who’d locked horns with Juliet over the finer points of the health code. Unimpressed with her management style, the other disgruntled employees are only too eager to spill the beans about her fiery temper to the detective on the case. Add to the mix a hunky stranger who’s asking way too many questions, and suddenly Juliet finds herself in some very hot water. If she can’t simmer down and sleuth her way to the real killer, she’s going to get burned.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT - FOREVER MINE

Hi, thanks for dropping by! Hope you're having a lovely day?  Just wanted to share that May 28th is launch day for the third book in my Amber Reed Mystery series of novels - and it's on special offer at just 99p/99c for today and tomorrow.

Each of the books in this romantic comedy cozy mystery chicklit series is a standalone story with oodles of fun, romance and the smart, sassy special agents from the CCIA - otherwise known as the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency.

In book 1 Amber and Charlie met (and lots more besides but that's a whole other story, which is told in And The Earth Moved!).

In book 2 we followed Amber and Charlie's crime solving adventures on a remote Scottish island where a popstar had been murdered - this story is told in Precious.

So what's next for our daring duo? They're off to a luxury mountain lodge to catch a stalker...

ABOUT THE BOOK:

FOREVER MINE

When celebrities need a crime solving quickly and discreetly they call in the experts – the CCIA, otherwise known as the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency…

Stalkers, shootings and sexy special agents.

All part of being famous, right?

Well, they are for Oscar-winning actress Amelia Kingston when she starts getting deeply disturbing and threatening notes left by a stalker – in her bedroom!

When her boyfriend Ty is shot she calls in the CCIA. The agency sends its newest recruit Amber and her sexy special agent partner Charlie undercover to Amelia’s luxury mountain chalet to track down the person terrorising her.

But circumstances force the agency to pull Charlie off the case, meaning Amber has a new crime fighting partner to try and catch the stalker with – and he’s trouble with a capital T!  He throws Amber’s life into chaos, making her question herself and her abilities as well as her relationship with Charlie.

When events in Los Angeles involving Charlie are splashed across newspapers around the globe Amber’s world comes crashing down.

But before she can even attempt to sort herself out she has to team up with her rogue co-worker and solve this case. Can the two of them manage to pull together and stop the stalker before anyone else gets shot?

Forever Mine is released today at the special price of just 99p/99c!

TAKE A SNEAK PEEK:

 “Who’d want to be famous?”
Charlie and I are hovering in the airport’s baggage reclaim area, hoping our luggage has managed to find its way to France too.
“Before I got this job I thought being a star was all glamourous living, oodles of money in the bank and being worshipped by all your adoring fans.”
The baggage carousel emits several loud clunks closely followed by a high pitched screeching noise before slowly starting up.
“But now,” I continue, lowering my voice, “I know being famous makes you a target for all the stalkers, murderers and crazies out there. One minute Amelia Kingston is receiving her Oscar for best actress in the blockbuster movie Forever Mine. The next she’s well, you know....”
Beside me Charlie nods and grabs his battered holdall from the baggage carousel. Then we have to wait for what seems like an eternity before my bright purple suitcase puts in an appearance too.
“Still not got the hang of this travelling light business have you?” he says hauling my own case from the conveyor belt.
“We’re staying in a luxury mountain chalet in the French Alps. Who knows what outfits I might need? I can’t pack light for this,” I retort whilst feeling a tad guilty about just how much I have crammed into my case. I had to sit on it to force the lid closed.
He shakes his head. “We’re working, Amber.”
“Yes, but we’re working undercover and the other guests will be glam celebrities wearing designer outfits so I’ll need to have some half-decent clothes with me. I can’t just turn up for dinner every night in jeans and a sweater.”
“Why not? I am,” he replies as we head for the exit, Charlie tugging my suitcase behind him.
Outside the wind is bitingly cold and almost blows me off my feet as we exit the airport terminal and head for the car hire offices. We left behind a warm spring day in the UK but here it feels more like February than May. I pull on a jacket.
See, that’s another reason why I needed to pack quite so much. The weather in the mountains is notoriously fickle. A girl needs to be prepared for sun, snow and rain where we’re going.
This is my second case as a support officer for the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency (otherwise known as the CCIA) and I’m still nervous about the whole catch-a-killer side of my work. OK, it’s mainly for the fully trained CCIA agents to do that side of the job whilst I provide, as my job title suggests, support on the case.
I do have a tendency to get a little bit carried away sometimes though and find myself in, shall we say, tricky circumstances. Like on my first case when I ended up in a cave on a deserted beach with a murderer who had a knife at my throat.
Anyway, technically, it’s the agents who are the guys with the special ‘clearance’ to do all sorts of things (sometimes against the law) to solve a case and get murderers put behind bars. Charlie even carries a gun. Which, to be honest, freaks me out just a little.

BOOK SNEAK PEEK - Chicklit Celebrity Murder Mystery

And The Earth Moved

Amber Reed CCIA Mystery Book One

“Romantic comedy meets celebrity murder mystery”

One minute you're at work making up horoscopes for the local paper, the next you're teaming up with a sexy secret agent called Charlie and trying to help solve a case for the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency...

Get the book on Amazon:

About the book:

Amber’s making up the horoscopes for the local paper and wishing for some excitement in her life when she gets a phone call offering her just that. It could change her life forever and plunge her into a world where she’s quickly (and scarily) out of her depth.

The call? Heartthrob actor Ennis McKarthy, her old uni boyfriend, begs her for a favour. His brother Joel has been found is dead - in very suspicious circumstances.

Desperate to keep the story out of the newspapers and solve the mystery of his brother’s death as fast as possible, Ennis has called in the specialists in the shape of the CCIA. The Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency has just the man for the job – their top agent Charlie Huxton.

But Ennis, stalked by journalists and paparazzi, doesn’t trust a stranger to handle the case on his own and keep quiet about what he might discover so he pleads with Amber, wanting her to shadow Charlie throughout the investigation.

Much to Amber’s surprise Charlie eventually agrees, leaving her wondering why. What’s he up to?

Charlie and Amber delve into Joel’s death and soon have their hands full with questioning potential suspects and the victim’s irate ex-girlfriend.

Then they discover they’re battling something far more dangerous than they could ever have expected…and it’s not just their growing attraction for each other.

Maybe Amber’s life is about to get too exciting…

SNEAKY PEEK SNIPPETS FROM THE BOOK:

I slam on the brakes and try to stop my car ploughing into Charlie’s which is now blocking the track up ahead. Charlie is standing in front of it, hands on hips and an un-amused expression on his face. I notice he doesn't even flinch as my car screeches to a halt only a foot or so in front of him.

*********************

I watch in reluctant admiration as he reverses the car at top speed and slings it into the pull-in fifty yards down the lane in what seems like little more than a few seconds. OK. Show-off. So he’s a better driver than me. Truth be told even Noddy in his little red cartoon car is probably a better driver than me too, so the bar isn’t set very high to start with, but CCIA Charlie certainly knows how to handle a vehicle.

*************************

He nudges my knee in what I’m amazed appears to be a playful gesture. How did this happen? Are we, just a little, flirting? Maybe this is one of those ‘lull people into a false sense of security to get answers out of them’ tactics. Like that smile of his. If it is, then he doesn’t play fair.
“Come on,” he coaxes.
“I go by the name Madam Zamber,” I reluctantly admit.
I stare at my knees but out of the corner of my eyes I can see him lift a hand to his mouth, presumably to hide a smirk.
“Madam Zamber eh?” He twists back into his seat. “Nah, doesn’t suit you at all.”
“And why not?” I ask, feeling a little indignant.
He shrugs. “Too boho for you.”
“I can do boho!” I protest.
He starts up the car. “I get the feeling you can do whatever you want to.”

*************************

I try to look as though I’m perfectly at ease with the concept of breaking and entering a quarry in the middle of the night.
“Wow,” Charlie nods approvingly. “You really carry off the cat burglar look very well.”
“Ha ha, very funny!” I do a little twirl in my black stretch jeans, close fitting black jumper and flat black boots. I fix a brave smile on my face but inside I’m a nervous wreck. My whole body is quivering with nerves. And cold. The temperature has plummeted and I’m desperately trying to stop my teeth chattering.

******************
“Help!” I shout into the phone again in desperation.
Did he hear me? Did it make any kind of sense to him? I press the phone more closely to my ear and strain to listen. More crackles and then I think I hear the end of Charlie’s reply.
On my way.
The phone goes dead. I hope Charlie did just say those words and they weren't a wishful figment of my imagination.

From the reviews for And The Earth Moved:

"Addictive new series, approach only if you are willing to read into the early hours of the morning!!!"

“The book is witty and light, with non-stop action and plenty of romance. I love the way the characters play off of each other, especially the leads. My next read will be book 2 in the series, PRECIOUS. I can’t wait to find out what happens to Amber and Charlie next!”

“Excellent book could not put it down. The combination of murder mystery AND romance brilliant. Look forward to reading book 2.”
