National Kissing Day

Today (June 19) is National Kissing Day in the UK (yes, it's true, honestly!) so to celebrate I'm sharing with you a kiss between Kat and Alex from one of my books How Do You Spell Love?

Take it away Alex and Kat...

Reaching for her hand, he helped her to her feet. “Have you ever flown a kite before?”
Kat looked on bemused as Alex pulled bits of metal poles and brightly coloured fabric from the rucksack. “Not since I was about eight.”
“Great, this should be fun then.”
Quickly, he assembled the kite. “This is a small version of a stunt kite. Fancy learning to fly it?”
Soon Kat had her hands firmly grasped to the kite’s handle, her feet planted firmly on the ground and Alex’s arms firmly around her waist.

“Now, tilt your left hand down a bit, that’s it!” he slipped a hand over her own, guiding her movements. “A bit more and it’ll do a loop the loop. That’s it! Terrific!”
As the bright orange kite gracefully turned itself full circle, Kat allowed her concentration to lapse and before she knew it, the kite was careering towards the sand at great speed. Alex tried to grab the controls before they slipped from her grasp, the kite suddenly swirling back up and away from them, up the beach as the wind quickened. They ran after it, Alex just managing to catch the controls and pull the kite back down to earth as the two of them collapsed in a heap on the sand. The kite fluttered to the ground yards away from them and they both burst out laughing.
“Sorry!” Kat giggled, sitting up. “I guess I can add kite flying to the list of things I’m no good at.”
Within seconds they were tumbling on the ground again, the kite forgotten. Lying on her back in the sand, Alex next to her, one hand cradling the back of her head, Kat lost herself in the most amazing kiss for a few seconds before a gust of wind tugged at her shirt and she heard the kite skimming away across the sand, the breeze pushing it merrily along.

“The kite!” Kat screeched, looking over Alex’s shoulder before flopping back onto the sand.
She looked up into Alex’s eyes. She hadn’t noticed before just how intensely brown they were. Propping himself on an elbow Alex grinned down at her.
“Sod the kite,” he whispered as he leaned down to kiss her again. Kat was vaguely aware of the sound of the kite continuing to skim along the sand as she lost herself once more to their kiss.
